Why does this donor support this organization?

Artist, life coach, and author William Wittmann believes we are born with an innate connection to the land. “We are all born into the landscape. That’s being human,” he explains. Wittmann donates part of the proceeds from the sale of his books and etchings to the Trust for Public Land and the Heifer Project, an international organization working to end world hunger by helping people obtain a sustainable source of food and income. TPL volunteers are essential to achieving our conservation goals. We work with over 400 volunteers across the country through local Advisory Councils. Our volunteers provide us with unparralled leadership. Local advisory council’s assist with strategic planning and act as TPL’s community liaisons throughout the country.

The Trust for Public Land is uniquely positioned to help create parks and protect open space. TPL is a national nonprofit organization that conserves land for people to enjoy as parks, community gardens, historic sites, rural lands, and other natural places. Since 1972, TPL has worked with willing landowners, community groups, and national, state, and local agencies to complete 3,674 projects in 46 states, protecting more than 2.4 million acres.

For four years in a row, Wall Street Journal’s SmartMoney magazine has rated the Trust for Public Land as one of the nation’s most efficient conservation charities.

Oregon Programs

TPL’s work in Oregon is as diverse as the communities it serves, protecting scenic landscapes along the Columbia River Gorge, public access to the coast, and open space in urban settings.

In Oregon and along the Columbia River Gorge, TPL has helped protect more than 78,000 acres.

Parks for People

Neighborhood parks and green spaces contribute to quality of life, strengthen communities, and offer havens for renewal. TPL works in communities across Oregon to ensure that everyone—in particular, every child—enjoys close-to-home access to a park, playground, or natural area.

Oregon Coast & Rivers

Oregon’s dramatic coastline and flowing rivers are signature pieces of its landscape and offer residents and visitors alike beautiful views and unique outdoor experiences. But these qualities also make them extremely vulnerable to development. TPL is preserving these special lands that protect clean drinking water, wildlife habitat, public access to shorelines, and Oregon’s natural beauty.

Working Lands

Between 1987-1997, Oregon lost more than 350,000 acres of farms and ranches to development.

TPL is working to protect agricultural lands that support land-based livelihoods and rural ways of life.

Natural Lands

With a bursting population, Oregon’s natural beauty is so in jeopardy that the non-profit Scenic America named it one of the ten “most endangered scenic places in America.” TPL is helping conserve Oregon’s landscapes and vast open spaces for our children’s children to explore and to support the wildlife that make their home there.

TPL helps preserve the wide range of special places that connect us to the land—from adding new parks to cities, to protecting cherished landscapes from poorly planned development in suburbs and rural communities, to preserving remote natural lands that inspire us.
