A Wild in the City trip

Join Mike Houck for a stroll around the 160-acre Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge.  Mike has been hiking in Oaks Bottom for over  30 years and is intimately familiar with the history and natural history of Oaks Bottom and its diverse fish and wildlife habitats.  Oaks Bottom was Portland’s first formally designated urban wildlife refuge and is also the City of Portland’s Migratory Bird Refuge through an agreement between the city and U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service.  In addition to late fall birding participants learn what Portland Parks and Bureau of Environmental Services is doing to improve habitat in the Bottoms.  This trip, which is appropriate for families, is a two-mile loop on both paved and uneven dirt paths, with two moderate hills.
