Nature Conservancy protects slice of valley where pioneers roamed

As we traveled down the last stretch of Belt Line Road, across the bridge over Amazon Creek to the intersection with Highway 126 on the west edge of town, Ed Alverson paused to notice the empty lot on the northwest corner.

We didn’t stack up traffic with our pause because we were on foot, not in a motor vehicle.

The lot looks like many empty parcels of land scattered around Eugene. I’ve actually paused on one of my trips to the coast to wonder what business might someday spring up there overnight.

The answer to that query, Alverson said, is none. It’s a piece of land owned by the city.
