The ancient forest enjoys magnificent wildflower blooms mid-summer, and these flowers bring striking species of butterflies to Opal Creek. Join Opal Creek instructors for a weekend exploring the wildflower diversity in the forest, and learn about the many diverse butterfly species who pollinate these flowers. We will hike through the tall trees, and in search of Swallowtails, Angelwings, Painted Ladies, and the elusive Mistletoe Hairstreak, Oregon’s only old growth dependent butterfly species. We will visit some of Opal Creek's butterfly hotspots, and learn to ID these butterflies by sight. All family workshops are kid focused, feature hands-on activities, and are a great way to enjoy the Opal Creek area as a family.
Cost: $120 per adult; free for kids 0-5 y.; $60 for kids 6-12 y.
All overnight workshops include meals, luggage shuttle, and accommodations in the historic mining town of Jawbone Flats. Before planning your visit to Opal Creek, please take a look at our Policies. If you're interested in scheduling an outdoor education program for your school, please visit our School Programs page.
