EcoSafe Home Store
A Store Created for You
The Oregon Center for Environmental Health recognizes that you want products for your home, child, and yourself that have been carefully assessed for their non-toxic and environmentally-friendly qualities. But how do you find those products when most consumer products have no required health and safety testing, are not monitored for long-term health effects, and have inadequate labeling requirements when it comes to toxicity. They are opening the EcoSafe Home Store to serve people who want to consider the health and environmental effects of the products they buy but, lack the time to research high-quality non-toxic options. Products are available for purchase at their website (www.oregon-health.org/ecosafehomebabies.html) and are also available in their new office/storefront at 4819 NE Fremont, Portland.
How Are Products Selected for the EcoSafe Home Store?
Before recommending a product, the Center examines the range of options available and the information concerning known toxic chemicals associated with each product. With each product they carry, they strive for full disclosure of their findings to assist the consumer in making an informed decision.
A Call for Safer Chemicals
The core of the Center’s work is advocacy for policies that require assessment of alternatives to dangerous chemicals and that place the burden of proof of safety on the chemical manufacturer. The Center also advocates for policies that close the gaps in data available about toxicity of consumer products, and which mandate removal of the most harmful chemicals from the manufacturing process.
