Dogs sniff out native plant to aid butterfly conservation effort
by Carrie Nugent, The Oregonian
David Vesely doesn't have a super smelling ability, but Rogue, his Belgian sheepdog, does.
Vesely and Rogue are part of a collaboration among Working Dogs for Conservation Foundation, the Oregon Wildlife Institute and The Nature Conservancy to use dogs to find plants at risk, such as the Kincaid's lupine, native to the Willamette Valley. They're key to the survival of Fender's blue butterfly, an endangered species that lays eggs on lupine leaves.
Find out why Rogue is so important, by reading the story here.
