Each year at the Alice Awards and Auction, the BTA honors the bike heroes of Oregon and Washington, and raises funds for our work to open minds and roads to bicycling. This year's party will be Saturday, March 22nd, from 5 to 9:30 pm at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland. We'll be celebrating Portland's upcoming Sunday Parkways by honoring Paris and their inspirational Paris Respire ("Paris Breathes") program.
This year's 37 Alice nominees hail from communities around the state. They include activists, attorneys, police officers, planners, race organizers, bicycling coaches, workplace bike coordinators, leaders of local bicycling groups, bike shop owners, youth bike safety instructors, and a bicycling family. Five of these bike heroes will be honored with an Alice Award on March 22nd. Meet the nominees at www.AliceAwards.org.
Here are some ways you can get involved:
Attend!
The silent auction runs from 5 to 7 pm on March 22nd. Dinner, the live auction, and the Alice Awards follow. Look for your invitation in the mail soon, or purchase your tickets at www.AliceAwards.org. Tickets cost $75, with special $35 tickets for kids 12 and under. If you want to organize a table of 10 for your friends, family, or coworkers, we'll reserve one and put your name on it. Half-tables can also be organized! Contact tricia@bta4bikes.org to sign up.
Donate!
Even if you can't come to the party, you can contribute by making a donation to the auction. We're looking for things you would want to bid on. Examples include bike accessories, frequent flier miles, vacation houses, personal services, restaurant dinners, adventures, artwork and crafts, and so on.
If you can't think of anything but want to help anyway, you can help us purchase those few things we need to complete some of the bigger packages. To help out, contact Heather at heather@bta4bikes.org or call (503) 226-0676 x24.
Volunteer!
The Alice Awards and Auction runs almost entirely on volunteer power. Last year we had an amazing volunteer team that made the event run more smoothly than ever. If you want to join them, go to www.AliceAwards.org and fill out the volunteer form, or contact Tricia at tricia@bta4bikes.org or (503) 226-0676 x25. We need help with set up and tear down, registration, decoration, and more. Volunteers get discount tickets, and the undying love of the BTA staff!
