Yes! We've Moved

BRING's Planet Improvement Center is open for business

After six long years of planning, fundraising, building and preparing, BRING has finally made the move to its showcase new facility, the Planet Improvement Center.

BRING's many longtime customers are amazed at the transformation.  No more tripping over piles of stuff in crowded, glass filled aisles.  No more mud, rain, or burning summer sun.  No more dangerous and inconvenient loading and parking.  The Planet Improvement Center is spacious, lit, covered, and yes, it has running water, paved parking, is ADA accessible and there are nice public bathrooms.

Goods are sorted, priced and displayed on neat industrial shelving.  Customers pay for their treasures in the handsome customer service area at a cash desk built from a reclaimed Glu-Lam beam, wood milled from the urban forest, recycled display cabinets all faced with old barnwood.

Creative reuse is in evidence throughout the site.  All the doors, windows, lights, fans and many other fixtures are used.  Many have stories. For example, the row of clerestory windows in the office came from Auto Craft, a business displaced by Eugene's new Federal Courthouse. The handsome brick red metal siding used on many buildings and the walkway canopy was once the roof of Babe's Cabaret, a strip club shut down after one two many police calls.

There's still a lot to do before the site is finished.  Over the next few months, you'll see street entry landscaping, a green roof on the soon-to-be-finished office building, fun and funky "railroad crossing" style gates (look for the big hands!), a street sign, an art filled office entry plaza and much more.

"We've put in the bones--the essential infrastructure so we can operate" says Julie Daniel, BRING's director.  "Now we're starting to add the fun, educational and artistic features that will turn the Planet Improvement Center into the learning center and must see attraction that we've been dreaming of".

If you are interested in sustainable development, green building, conservation or just love finding a bargain, head on down to the Planet Improvement Center, 4446 Franklin Boulevard in Glenwood, right between Eugene and Springfield, just 5 minutes from Interstate 5.
