Don't drip and drive -- find out what your car might be leaking into our rivers

If you go to the Portland International Auto Show this month, on Sat., Jan. 26th, you can get a special service.  Oregon Environmental Council can check your car (while you're inside at the show) for fluid and oil leaks.  It's how OEC is helping people understand how small leaks from our cars have big impacts on pollution in our rivers and streams.  (more...) 

Southern Oregon wetlands blown up -- for a good cause

Believe it or not, explosives CAN be a tool for environmental restoration. That is, they can be when used to breach two miles of levees that had been blocking water from important wetlands in the Klamath River Basin.  The Nature Conservancy carried out this unusual project recently to restore wetlands on its Williamson River Delta Preserve in Southern Oregon.  (See video of the explosion...)

Who's protecting important lands in the Willamette Valley?

Greenbelt Land Trust is!  The Corvallis-based land trust is now protecting vanishing habitat in Linn, Polk and Marion counties.  They are filling a need for land conservation in the Willamette Valley between Portland and Eugene, working to protect important properties that are under intense pressure from developers.
