Organic, local, beers and wines have advantages

Buying local, organic when shopping for beer or wine has environmental benefits

One study found that ingredients from a traditional real ale produced in a local brewery could have traveled about 600 miles, while an imported lager produced by a multinational corporation may have clocked up 24,000 "beer miles" to reach the consumer.

Cool Down This Summer with a Lighter Beverage

When you entertain guests this summer, why not host a healthier, more sustainable party? Use your responsible purchasing power to buy organic, local beverages. Leading by example will inspire others!

Organic Beer means healthy farms

Made from hops grown on USDA certified, organic land, organic beer contains no pesticides, synthetic fertilizers or genetic engineering. Besides the obvious health benefits you’ll receive from lessening your chemical intake, you’ll be supporting sustainable farmlands for many more generations of hops-growing!

Sometimes it's more earth-friendly to buy locally, even if it means not buying organic. Try to find a brewer or vineyard who produces their wares locally, and you'll cut down on the (often large) transportation cost.

Buy Organic!

Try Wolaver’s Ale, one of the first certified organic brews in the country. Wolaver's uses environmental strategies from bio-diesel boilers, to heat recovery methods, to energy efficient lighting. Visit www.ottercreekbrewing.com to learn more!

Many Oregon microbreweries and craft brewers have organic beer options. Some, like Southeast Portland's Hopworks Urban Brewery (described as "Portland’s first Eco-Brewpub to offer all organic handcrafted beers") offer several organic options both at the brewpub -- others also sell their organic options at the grocery store.
